Today in class we covered interface design. There are lots of ways to accomplish web design, one method we learn’t is:
- Research and figure out what the purpose of your site will be (target market, what should it do etc).
- Brainstorm ideas, do competitor research and start collecting inspiration.
- Do thumbnail sketches of what you might want for the visual design.
- Pick two or three designs from above and develope them further. Start testing out these ideas further by adding colour, fonts etc. This can be done on the computer
- Make up a wireframe, click-able prototype or paper-prototype. This can be good to make at this stage to help you get a better visual idea of what your website is going to look like without having to code it.
- Do variations on the homepage design as this is the first page that is usually seen and then used to help create the basis of the other pages. Get client feed back on these designs.
- Create yourself template-designs to save time with the making of the “Key” pages. “Key” pages can include homepage, landing page, gallery page and blog page.
- Make sure the visual design is in a template-fashion with modular components to make it quicker and easier to build.
Tips for interface design:
Skeuomorphism- Skeuomorphism is a common and similar style that is used to make the graphical user interface look like real physical objects.
UI Patterns- User interface patterns are solutions to common design problems that occur again and again. These can be found on the web.
Design Principles- These principles include dominance, directional lines, contrast, consistency and repetition. Using these principles will help you to create a better website page design.
