I have taken a few screenshots of examples of home pages, menus, footers and just website page layouts that I like in general, from the websites I found earlier. There is definitely a common theme of simplicity, colour and shape going on.
I really love this design/art school website. I really like how they almost have a 'second' menu further down the page and that stays consistent on every page. I think this would be a cool idea to use for information you always want to be seen and access no matter what menu you are in. For example: student gallery, map, courses, enrolment. I also really like their 'tutors' page and how they have present the photos of them. Its a nice way of using colour.
I love geometry so I couldn't resist myself from researching websites that use shapes in interesting ways as apart of their design. This website is very simplistic with lots of images. I really like the simple menu at the top of the page but most of all I like how they have used hexagons to display there information. On the home page you can hover over the hexagons and it gives you abit of information about what it is linked too. It is treated as another menu. They use the hexagon as a design element right through there webpages which I really like. More interesting than just a plain square or rectangle and abit more original than a circle.
The menu for this website is so rad! As you can see in the above images it has a hidden menu in the top right corner on the homepage. When you click the menu button it opens the menu up on a new page. Once you have selected one of the menu options you scroll down and the relevant information is presented and then menu goes back to hiding behind its icon. I also love their simple footer. I think footers can start to look quite ugly sometimes. This is a nice example of how to keep it simple. Since I love shapes I also couldn't help but love how they have broken up their pages using diagonal rectangles as the background behind text/ images as shown in each of the images above.
The above images are from a variety of websites. The top two images are from the same website which I really liked because it was a really cool example how black/white and positive/negative can actually look really effective. The third image is from a website that likes using negatives of images and typography. I just really like the hand drawn type. I thought it was a really successful design element and the last image is actually from the first website at the top of this page. I liked their choice layout they used for the 'student gallery' page. Nice and simple, clear and effective.
This is another website that grabbed my attention by the way they have displayed their menu. Instead of it being at the top of the page, it is about halfway down the homepage. When you click on an option the menu tab expands with sub menus. They also use minimal colour and when they do use colour, they are very intentional with it.
Very simplistic design on this website. I like how they use coloured shapes (triangles my favourite!) as an overlay on parts of the content. Mainly images. Still very useable and readable though.
The typography on the homepage is very cool. I can image that font being used for a design school website. The words almost become an image which is a really nice touch. They have a very cool menu bar too. Abit like the one earlier, it is hidden away behind an icon but this time when you click on it the menu bar opens on the same page as shown above. Again minimal colour and very simplistic. The have a clear grid system going on to with how their content is displayed on the additional pages, which I like.
