Project Two: Home page design concepts

I have picked a few of the layouts I liked from my sketches to make in illustrator. I have chosen to go with a more structured, sharp lined, gridded kinda style rather than a more hand drawn-look.

Variation one:

I like the menu being on the side like this I think that using squares though are abit boring. 

Variation two:

The hexagons look much better in my opinion but I can imagine that having a side menu like above would cram the hexagons too much. I do like the top menu though with the logo in the middle to break it up. I think the page looks balanced. 

Variation three:

I like the idea of this layout and using a pattern but I just don't think it quite looks right. Maybe different colours would be better. 

Variation four:

I prefer this from the top example and I really like the icons. I think they look very modern and the style of them kinda reminds me of something that maybe Apple would produce. 

Variation five:

I actually really like this design. It looks a little more 'drawn' compared to the others. The limited colour palette and use of outlines I think it quite effective. I like the idea of having the menu bar in the middle of the page and keeping the bottom half the same through out all pages of the website and then just putting the new content in the top half replacing the 'congratulations and welcome to WITT...'.  I am just not too sure how well that would work though.
